The Sheriff's Office continues to monitor Hurricane Dorian and will keep you updated over Labor Day weekend.

Hurricane Dorian


In this morning's conference call with the South Carolina Emergency Management Division, officials from the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office Emergency Management Division and county emergency management divisions throughout South Carolina continued to discuss coordination and possible impacts of Hurricane Dorian. The National Weather Service provided a briefing during the call and indicated heavy rains, coastal flooding and rough surf are possible in Beaufort County toward the middle of next week.

According to the National Weather Service, as of 8:00 this morning, Hurricane Dorian was located 230 east-northeast of the Turks and Caicos Islands, was moving northwest at 12 miles per hour, and had maximum sustained winds of 110 miles per hour. 

The Sheriff's Office will continue to keep you updated on developments with Hurricane Dorian over Labor Day weekend and as necessary.

Hurricane Dorian

According to the National Hurricane Center, as of 5:00 p.m. today (Thursday), Hurricane Dorian was located 330 miles east of the southeastern Bahamas, was moving northwest at 13 miles per hour, and had maximum sustained winds of 85 miles per hour.  

​

Tomorrow morning (Friday), the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office Emergency Management Division will continue the discussion on possible impacts of Hurricane Dorian in a conference call with the South Carolina Emergency Management Division and emergency management officials from other South Carolina counties. Following tomorrow's conference call, we will provide an update on Hurricane Dorian and its possible impacts on Beaufort County.

Sheriff's Office Emergency Management continues to monitor Hurricane Dorian. We will keep you updated.

Hurricane Dorian


This morning, the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office Emergency Management Division—as well as county emergency managers throughout the State—participated in the third conference call with the South Carolina Emergency Management Division regarding potential impacts of Hurricane Dorian. In addition to Emergency Management personnel, present during the call were Sheriff P.J. Tanner, Beaufort County Administrator Ashley Jacobs and Beaufort County School District Superintendent Frank Rodriquez,

During the conference call, an update from the National Weather Service (NWS) was provided. According to the NWS, Hurricane Dorian's forward speed has slowed and its intensity—category one storm with maximum sustained winds of 85 miles per hour—has increased. it is still too early to tell the degree of impact Hurricane Dorian might have on our area, but heavy rains, winds, as well as flooding of coastal and low-lying areas of Beaufort County—especially during high tides—are possible as the storm moves closer to the Southeast coast.

We appreciate your patience. Hurricane Dorian's path—as well as its potential impacts—will become more clear by tomorrow and, certainly, over the next few days. We will keep you informed on developments.

This afternoon, Sheriff P.J. Tanner and members of the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office Emergency Management Division participated in the first conference call with the South Carolina Emergency Management Division regarding potential impacts of Tropical Storm Dorian on Beaufort County.
