Lieutenant Brian Baird

Lieutenant Brian Baird was born and raised in Keene, New Hampshire. He graduated from Keene High School and attended Keene State College prior to enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Military Policeman. While attending Recruit Training at Parris Island, SC, he meritoriously promoted to Private First Class prior to graduation.

He was then stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC. He served as a Military Police Patrolman for 18 months and was then selected to become the Evidence Custodian within the Criminal Investigations Division and began on-the-job training to become a Criminal Investigator. He later attended the U. S. Army Military Police Criminal Investigator's School at Fort McClellan, Alabama and served as a USMC Criminal Investigator at various Marine Corps Bases in the U.S. and in Japan.

In 1992, Baird returned to MCAS Beaufort and was subsequently selected to become a Marine Special Agent with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. While serving with NCIS, he worked General Crimes, Counter Narcotics Operations, Cold Case Homicides, Protective Service Operations, and Force Protection Operations in the Middle East. Baird attended numerous schools and training while serving in the Marine Corps and with NCIS and has been decorated for his service to our country.

In 2001, after two assignments in the Middle East, Baird and his family decided to retire to the Beaufort area; and in December 2001, he was hired by the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office as an Investigator with the Northern Investigations Section. Since then, he has worked numerous criminal investigations to include death investigations, missing persons, cold case unresolved homicides, kidnappings, sexual abuse cases, child molestation cases and was a member of the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office Drug Task Force.

Baird continued his training by attending additional courses related to law enforcement. In 2002, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and assigned as the Northern Investigations Section Assistant Supervisor. He continued to work criminal cases while also assisting to supervise the section. Then in 2006, Baird was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant in place within the section.

In 2009, he was selected to attend polygraph school at the American International Institute of Polygraph in Morrow, Georgia. After graduating from polygraph school and passing the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) Polygraph Intern testing procedure, he was assigned additional duties to assist with conducting polygraphs for the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office within the Office of Professional Responsibility. In 2010, Brian completed his Polygraph Internship and was fully licensed as a Polygraph Examiner in the state of South Carolina. He continued to be the assistant supervisor and a case investigator while also conducting polygraph examinations for Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

In 2011, Brian Baird was promoted to Master Sergeant and selected to fill the newly created billet of Special Investigator. He administered polygraph examinations, and conducted internal investigations related to complaints from citizens, as well as conducted special investigations as directed.

In September 2014, Baird was meritoriously promoted to Lieutenant.

In 2017, Baird was elected President of the South Carolina Association of Polygraph Examiners (SCAPE). 


In August 2018, Baird completed training to be a National Certified Internal Affairs Investigator/Supervisor.
