Lieutenant Robert Arbelo

Lieutenant Robert Arbelo was born and raised in NYC. However, in 1986, he came to Beaufort, SC via the US. Marine Corps, where he worked at Parris Island as a marksmanship instructor. In January 1989, he began his law enforcement career as a Patrol Officer in Northern Beaufort County and after 4 years was promoted to Detective.

In 1995, Arbelo went to work for the Beaufort City Police Department as an Area Specific Community Police Officer which was a Pilot Program for Beaufort’s Community Policing Initiative.

In 1997, Arbelo returned to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, as a Sergeant, in order to serve as BCSO’s first Victim’s Advocate. Additionally, he serves as one of BCSO’s Spanish Translators.

In 2000, Arbelo transferred back to Criminal Investigations where he investigated a variety of criminal cases, up to and including:  violent crimes and juvenile crimes.  He also served as the assistant Investigations Supervisor.

In 2006, Arbelo was promoted to Staff Sergeant and transferred to the Southern Enforcement Branch to serve as a Patrol Shift Supervisor for D-Team. But in 2007, he was transferred to the Northern Enforcement Branch to serve as a Patrol Shift Supervisor for D-Team North.

In 2009, Arbelo was promoted to Master Sergeant and assigned as the Supervisor over the Northern Enforcement Branch. In this capacity, he oversaw daily operations of Patrol, Animal Control, and the Special Enforcement Unit.

In May 2016, Arbelo was promoted to Lieutenant and assigned as the Assistant Branch Commander of the Northern Enforcement Branch.
