Calvert Family Missing Persons Investigation Update

Review of Situation

On Monday evening, March 3, 2008, John and Elizabeth Calvert disappeared after a business meeting on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. The following afternoon they were reported missing by family members after they failed to show up at scheduled appointments. The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office has been actively investigating their disappearance since Tuesday evening.

Initially, a silver 2006 Mercedes E320 belonging to the Calverts was also missing. A national BOLO (Be on the Look Out) and an entry in the NCIC (National Crime Information Computer) were issued for both the family and the vehicle. The Sheriff's Office has been continually following leads, contacting family, friends and business associates in a concentrated effort to locate the Calverts or determine a reason that they have disappeared.

Update

At this time it has not been established that any crime has occurred. The Sheriff's Office continues to investigate all leads and explore all possibilities. No scenario has been ruled out at this time.

The Sheriff's Office Dive Team was scheduled to dive the Harbour Town Marina today, however due to severe weather the dive has been postponed for safety reasons.

At approximately 3:00 AM this morning (3/7/08), the Mercedes was located parked in a commercial parking lot in Palmetto Dunes Resort on Hilton Head Island. It was located by Sheriff's deputies conducting an exhaustive search of every parking lot on the island. The vehicle was impounded and searched thoroughly. There was nothing found in or around the vehicle to shed any new light on the search for the Calverts.

The State Law Enforcement Division, which has extensive forensic capabilities, and the FBI have been requested to provide assistance to the Sheriff's Office in the on-going effort to locate the Calverts. Both agencies are cooperating fully.
