Twenty-six-year-old Juan Hernandez and 26-year-old Javier Valentin Reyes have been arrested and charged with Burglary 2nd degree for the January 22nd break-in at the Station One Shell Convenience Store located at 1 Palmetto Parkway on Hilton Head Island.
Both suspects were identified on video surveillance tapes that showed them making forced entry to the store by breaking the insulated safety glass panel in the front entrance doors. Once inside, the suspects rummaged through the store, left for a brief period of time, only to return moments later to steal four 12-packs of beer before fleeing again.
Upon making positive identification of both suspects seen in the video, investigators discovered that Hernandez was already incarcerated, having been arrested just after 2:00 am yesterday morning for an unrelated incident. The second suspect, Reyes, was located standing outside of Fairfield Square after investigators received an anonymous tip regarding his whereabouts.
Reyes was arrested and transported to the Beaufort County Detention Center where both he and Hernandez were served with warrants for Burglary 2nd degree. Both suspects remain in custody at this time, each on a $15,000 bond.
The US Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) will be notified to further investigate and confirm the immigration status of both suspects, who have stated that they are originally from Mexico. Neither suspect has been able to provide any legal form of identification, nor any documentation of their immigration status. |
