Attempted Armed Robbery at Independent Mobile Home Park

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is investigating the attempted armed robbery of a taxi cab driver last night.

Just after 7:30 pm 54-year-old Ernest Griffin, a driver for Maude's Cab Company, responded to the Independent Mobile Home Park at 60 Shanklin Road, where he had been dispatched to pick up a fare. Griffin stated that upon his arrival, two black males, both approximately 20-30 years of age, and wearing dark-colored clothing approached his vehicle.

As they approached, one of the suspects presented a handgun and put it to Griffin's neck advising him not to move. Griffin proceeded to hit the accelerator of his vehicle and sped off, leaving the suspects behind.

Griffin was able to escape uninjured. He drove to a nearby gas station where he called 9-1-1. Deputies returned to the area where the incident occurred to search for the possible suspects, but had no contact with any person matching the suspects' descriptions.

One suspect was described as being approximately 5'8" tall, slender build, and was wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt. The second suspect was described as being approximately 5'6" tall, heavy-set build, and was wearing a gray jogging suit.

The Sheriff's Office is asking anyone with information to please contact the Beaufort County Dispatch Center at 843-524-2777.
