Jose Antonio Delgado, a suspect wanted in connection with a string of vehicle break-ins throughout Bluffton and Hilton Head led deputies on a brief pursuit this afternoon.
Sheriff's deputies received numerous reports of vehicle break-ins starting just after 10:00 am this morning at the Best Buy in Bluffton, located at 1007 Fording Island Road, and progressing throughout the day to various shopping centers and parking lots located off of US 278 all the way through Shelter Cove Mall located at 24 Shelter Cove Lane on Hilton Head Island.
A witness at Shelter Cove Mall reported seeing a suspicious Hispanic male subject in the area of a one of the vehicle break-ins in the mall parking lot. The subject was seen leaving the area in a dark blue in color Chevy SUV.
At approximately 12:30 pm, a deputy noted a dark blue in color Chevy Tahoe matching the given vehicle description traveling westbound on US 278 and attempted to conduct a traffic stop at the intersection of US 278 and Gumtree Rd. Instead of stopping, the driver of the Tahoe accelerated, leading deputies on a pursuit on US 278 into Bluffton. The suspect eventually turned onto Buckingham Plantation Road, pulled into the parking lot of Old South Golf Links and fled on foot.
Deputies searched the area, assisted by the Sheriff's Office K-9 Tracking team, however the suspect was not located. The suspect being sought has been identified as 32-year-old Jose Antonio Delgado of Beaufort. A warrant has been obtained for Delgado for Failure to Stop for Blue Lights/Sirens. Further charges may be pending as investigators continue to follow-up on the reported vehicle break-ins.
Delgado is described as a Hispanic male approximately 6'01", 200 lbs. wearing a gray shirt or jacket and black pants. He was last seen in the on the Old South golf course. Delgado's last known address is 23 Youmans Drive, Beaufort.
