Three Suspects Arrested in Bluffton Vandalism

Three Bluffton teens were arrested early Saturday morning in connection with the vandalism of a Juniper Lane residence last month.

Andrew F. Appenelli
Nicholas A. Howard
Joshua L. Rollins

Eighteen-year-old Andrew Frances Appenelli, 19-year-old Nicholas Allen Howard, and 18-year-old Joshua Lee Rollins, all of Bluffton, turned themselves into deputies just after 1:30 am on December 15th during a pre-arranged meeting at the Sheriff's Office Law Enforcement Center in Beaufort.

The three suspects were each wanted on charges of Use of a Destructive Device to Damage Real/Personal Property and Malicious Injury to Property. The charges stem from an incident that was reported to the Sheriff's Office on December 8th.

The complainant, 30-year-old Sheri Brown of Bluffton, reported to deputies that unknown person(s) had vandalized an outdoor storage shed and the mailbox located on her property at 1 Juniper Lane (located off of Simmonsville Rd). The damage was discovered when Brown went to tend to the currently unoccupied residence on December 8th. Upon her arrival, she found the mailbox destroyed and an outdoor storage shed covered in graffiti.

Based on information provided by witnesses who reported seeing several suspicious white males in the area during the time in which Brown's property had been damaged, deputies were able to identify Appenelli, Howard, and Rollins as the suspects who had committed the vandalism.

During the investigation, it was determined that the three suspects had created a homemade "chlorine bomb", which was then detonated in Brown's mailbox. In addition to destroying the mailbox, the suspects also spray painted the interior of Brown's outdoor storage shed with various graffiti.

All three suspects have since been released from the Detention Center on personal recognizance bonds pending Magistrate and General Sessions court appearances.
