The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is investigating an armed robbery that occurred last night at a business on Mathews Drive in Hilton Head.

At approximately 8:00 pm last night, a masked man entered Global Tel located at 130 Mathews Drive. The suspect, described as a white male between 20-30 years old wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and dark colored pants, presented a handgun to the clerk and demanded money.

The clerk complied with the suspect's demands, handing over an undisclosed amount of cash from the drawer. The suspect demanded more money and attempted to jump the counter. A second employee in the store quickly reacted by running to a rear emergency fire door and opening it, causing the alarm to sound. Startled by the alarm, the suspect then fled out the front door in an unknown direction.

Neither employee sustained any injuries, and no customers were present in the store at the time of the incident.
