The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is investigating an assault and armed robbery that occurred at the Hilton Head Gardens apartment complex Saturday evening.

At approximately 8:00 pm Sheriff's deputies responded to the emergency room at Hilton Head Regional Medical Center in reference to a Hispanic male suffering from multiple stab wounds. Upon arrival, the victim advised that he had been stabbed and robbed in the parking lot of Hilton Head Gardens just before 7:30 pm.

The victim, 36-year old Adan Contraran, relayed to deputies that a friend had driven him to the apartments and dropped him off at approximately 7:20 pm. As he walked through the parking lot, he was approached by six unknown black male subjects. The subjects demanded money from Contraran, and when he refused, several members of the group proceeded to assault him, punching and kicking him as he tried to get away.

One of the subjects then produced a knife and stabbed Contraran several times, causing lacerations and puncture wounds to his extremities. The same subject then removed an undisclosed amount of cash from Contraran's pockets before the group fled on foot. Contraran was able to flee the area and contact a friend, who picked him up and drove him to the hospital.
