The suspect being sought in the October 26th armed robbery of the Red Roof Inn was arrested early Saturday morning.
At approximately 12:30 am on November 3rd, Beaufort County Sheriff's deputies made contact with 42-year-old Samuel Ervin, Jr. at the Hilton Head branch of the Sheriff's Office located at 7 Lagoon Road. Deputies responded to the office after Ervin reportedly called the Beaufort County Dispatch Center advising that he wished to turn himself in.
Investigators had been searching for Ervin after he was positively identified as the subject seen on video surveillance footage robbing a motel employee at gunpoint in the early morning hours of October 26th. During the incident, Ervin entered the lobby of the Red Roof Inn, presented a handgun, and demanded money from the motel's night auditor on duty. After being given an undisclosed amount of cash from the front desk register, Ervin fled the motel.
Ervin was taken into custody by deputies without incident, and was transported to the Beaufort County Detention Center, where he currently remains on a $60,000 bond for charges of Armed Robbery and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Violent Crime.
