Wanted Suspect Arrested for Criminal Domestic Violence High and Aggravated

James Leroy Jenkins

The suspect wanted in a domestic dispute that occurred on October 28th was arrested yesterday morning.

Thirty-four-year-old James Leroy Jenkins of St. Helena was arrested at 6:00 am yesterday morning when he turned himself in to deputies at the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office main headquarters.

Jenkins was wanted for Criminal Domestic Violence of a High and Aggravated Nature in connection with the assault of his girlfriend, 26-year-old Tasha Brown.

On October 28th at approximately 9:30 am, Sheriff's deputies responded to the couple's residence located on Sea Island Parkway in reference to a domestic dispute. Upon arrival, deputies met with Brown, who advised that she had been assaulted several times by Jenkins over the course of the previous evening and following morning.

Brown stated that she and Jenkins had gotten into an argument after leaving a party the night before. Once they got home, the argument escalated when Jenkins punched Brown in the face several times. Despite the assault, Brown went to sleep that night, only to have the argument continue the following morning.

At approximately 9:00 am on October 28th Brown decided to leave to avoid further argument. Jenkins, however, pulled out a pistol, threatening to kill Brown if she left. Jenkins began to assault Brown again, pointing the pistol at her head, and shoving her into walls. Brown was eventually able to break free and flee the residence, running to a neighbor's house for assistance. Jenkins fled the scene prior to deputies' arrival.

Upon Jenkins' arrest yesterday morning, he was transported to the Beaufort County Detention Center , where he was later released on a $10,000 bond.
