The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is investigating an armed robbery that occurred at a Hilton Head Island motel early Friday morning.

At approximately 5:20 am on October 26th, Sheriff's deputies responded to the Red Roof Inn located at 5 Regency Parkway in reference to a motel employee reporting having just been robbed at gunpoint.

The employee, a 28-year-old night auditor for the motel advised that she had received a phone call at approximately 5:00 am from a male caller inquiring about a room. The caller advised he would be there in approximately 10 minutes to rent a room, and as promised, a male subject called back 10 minutes later advising he was outside the locked lobby entry door.

The employee let the subject in, and as the subject approached the lobby counter, he produced a handgun. The subject demanded money, and the employee complied, handing over an undisclosed amount of cash from the register. The subject then fled the lobby headed towards the right back side of the property.

As the employee was calling 9-1-1, she noticed what appeared to be an older model Oldsmobile Cutlass drive past the lobby on the right side, coming from the same direction the subject had fled towards. The employee sustained no injuries as a result of the incident.

The subject is described as a black male, approximately 6'2", 180 lbs between the ages of 35-40. He was described as having black hair, brown eyes, no facial hair, and walked with a slight limp of his right leg. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, a white t-shirt, and white sneakers.
