In October 2007, the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and the Office of Attorney General announced an initiative to reward individuals who report an animal-fighting incident. This reward can be as great as $5,000 for information leading to arrest and conviction in an animal fighting case.

In May 2008, Crimestoppers joined this statewide effort. Crimestoppers has allowed the use of the statewide hotline (888-CRIME-SC/888-274-6372) and web site www.sccrimestoppers.com to direct animal fighting tips to the appropriate South Carolina law enforcement agency. When a tip leads to a conviction, Crimestoppers will then distribute the money on behalf of the HSUS.
