Captain Mark Mattox

Captain Mark Mattox was born in Hawaii in 1960 and moved to Beaufort County in 1975. He graduated from Battery Creek High School and later attended the University of South Carolina. He joined the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office in 1985 and has served in many capacities.

Mattox spent the first 16 years of his career in the Patrol Division, working his way up to a supervisory position. He was one of the 15 members of the original SWAT Team established by the Sheriff's Office in 1987. While on the road, he attended and graduated from DARE Instructor School and was assigned collateral duties as a DARE Officer at Lady's Island Elementary School from 1993 to 1994.

In 2001, Mattox obtained the rank of Lieutenant and was assigned to the Administrative Division where he was promoted to Captain in 2006. While being attached to the Administrative Division, he attended and graduated from the National Fire Academy's Incident Command System Instructor School.

Captain Mattox is currently assigned as the Administrative Branch Manager where he oversees the Warrants Section, Civil Process and Judgments Section, as well as the FOIA Officer.
